Galbanum Essential Oil – Ferula galbaniflua– is steam distilled from the aromatic sticky gum resin of the species F. galbaniflua, a flowering plant related to the carrot family. This species of Ferula grows wild mainly on the slopes of the mountain ranges of Iran.??
The Ferula genus is also found widespread from the Mediterranean region to central Asia where the climate is moderate, harbouring perfect growing conditions for the plants.
The Galbanum Essential Oil has a green and slightly bitter aroma, almost like a woody/smokey pine oil, which has been used as a sacred substance since ancient times. When exposed to the air, the aroma of the oil changes to a woody/green/balsamic note.
The oil is a pale olive in colour with a light fluid liquid. Popular with perfumers when looking for a green/grass-like aroma.
Blends well with citrus, woody oils like sandalwood and floral. Use in a diffuser and when blended can make your home smell exotic.
When stored correctly in a tightly closed amber bottle below 30C, it should last you over 4 years. Use your Galbanum oil safely, away from the reach of children and if pregnant or breast feeding consult a clinical aromatherapist or doctor before using it either topically or for inhalation.
